Week Commencing: Sat 23/08/2025
The 50 + club
This week we had a fair amount of anglers where its either there first time or second coming to Gigantica and a time they wont forget as many PB’s were broken.
Lets start with Callum Wadham and his first time at Gigantica where he was fishing in Turtles Corner and on the first night he had managed to break his PB with a known fish to us called The Long Common. However, as we were about to do photos the fish had got away on the mat. Gigantica had something better planned for Callum giving him an unforgettable opportunity in catching Hanson. We were all over the moon for him due to what happen with The Long Common but not as much as he was when lifting a 69lb beast whilst grinning like a chester cat as we all called it. He was fishing all three rods on the same spot at 21 and a half wraps towards the island. Callum put 8-10kg out every day at 4pm and after every fish he added 20 spombs of corn, maize, pellet and fish based boillies in 12mm and 16mm, topped with salmon oil and squid liquid. He had a total of 18 fish, 1x 60lb, 1x 50lb, 6x 40’s and 5x 30’s. Callum was fishing solid bags with a single yellow maize, containing a size 4 wide gape hook, uncoated dark matter hook link finished with a Korda 3.5oz inline pear lead.
Next up we have Charlie Mccreary in Tea Party 1 and also his first time here at Gigantica where he managed to smash his PB, catching Fosters weighing 61lb. He also managed to land Nailed weighing 51lb from the same spot, he managed to land some smaller carp through the week as well. Charlie began with fishing 2 rods at 15 wraps to the church and one at 21 wraps to turtles corner. He then moved all three rods tight together at 15 wraps due to where all his bites were coming from. He started with around 4kg on the spot and after every fish he topped up with 10 spombs. Charlies spod mix contained maize, 16mm and 12mm fish based boillie. Charlie was using a Fluorocarbon D-Rig size 4.
On the opposite side over in The Beach was Matt Ward who managed to land 10 fish. He managed to land a new confirmed 50lb plus for Gigantica called Bomb Head weighing 50lb which was a new PB for him at the time. He caught this from 15 wraps towards the corner of The Bund. Matt was also fishing at 14 wraps towards The Decoy. He had been putting 10-15 spombs on this every night and eventually came good on Thursday with another new PB called Lovin Life weighing 57lb. Matt had also managed to land a few 40’s including Cage Fighter weighing 41lb and some 30’s. He was fishing with solid bags with a pump of pineapple goo inside. Matts rig was a standard PVA rig topped with Isotonic Gigantica specials dumbbell wafters chopped down to look like a piece of maize. Matt’s spod mix contained maize, flake maize and boillie topped with sweetcorn flavoured smart liquid and salmon oil. This was also Matt’s second time here at Gigantica.
Opposite is Lee Keary and his second time here at Gigantica fishing in The Decoy who managed to beat his PB within the first couple hours of being here at Gigantica managing to land Eye-Q weighing 55lb 4oz. As Lee turned up to his swim he saw fish showing down his right margin so he tied a solid bag and wrapped up to 18 wraps and got rewarded. He continued to fish just solid bags on the first night and started introducing bait on the second night. He started with 15 spombs of maize, mainline cell and Link boillies in 15mm. After every fish he added 5-10 spombs each time. Lee was also fishing 12 wraps to The Beach corner and managed to land another 50lb plus called Missing Link weighing 51lb using the same tactics. He moved 2 rods to this spot in the night and 2 to his right margin in the day. On the last night he managed to land a high 40 common called The Stalker weighing 47lb which was a nice finish to the session. Through the week Lee managed to land a handful of 30s as well. He kept on using solid bags through the week as they were working well and fished it with yellow maize as his hookbait.
Matt Green was fishing in The Poo and managed to smash his PB with Eddy weighing 50lb 8oz. He had caught this from 10 and a half wraps straight out. He was also able to catch a mid 40 shortly after. Matt was fishing solid bags and spombing maize and a fish based boillie over the top.
