Shower of Shit

Unfortunately for me this week was let down at the end by someone leaving me a present in the shower… however up until this point it was an enjoyable week for both myself and the anglers and there were certainly some good fish put on the bank.

Kicking things off we have Jason Shroeder who fished in Turtles Corner, Jason didn’t catch the highest number of fish this week but I think its safe to say his captures could probably have been classed as the best weeks fishing due to the stamp of fish that graced his net. Jason banked 6 fish this week mainly all coming from 21 wraps towards the Dot island, Jason fished a spinner rig with a snowman as the hookbait, while feeding a mix of House Maize, House Pellet and Boilie covered with a generous helping of Cell Smart Liquid and the fish definitely seemed to enjoy this concoction, from the 6 fish banked for Jason it included 2 fifty’s which were both PB’s for him, the first being Frankie at 54lb and then Broken Tail at 51lb, he also had two forties which were Ruby Murray at 48lb 4oz and then Lumpy at 40lb 4oz, a couple of the not so regularly seen forties might I add, the last two fish were made up from a high thirty which was The Dutch at 38lb 4oz and lastly a 21lb mirror. Jason was making the most of the limited feeding spells infront of him as this week the fish were only getting into his swim during the hours of darkness, so he was getting his traps set and bait applied after dinner each night laying in waiting for the descending fish.

Next we have our very own Greg Bailie, one of the bailiffs here at the Big G, Greg was fishing road as a guest with his brother Tim, Greg fished out of Dunkerque this week mainly because Tim got the Beach and they could have a social, but Greg also knew Dunkerque had been in good form recently and always had the chance of doing some good fish. Gregs preferred method this was was solid bags with a small amount of bait over the top, his free offerings were made up of a mix of House Maize, Hemp and Pellet with boilie added in also, he fished at 15 wraps towards the dot island as this is an area he kept seeing signs of fish. Overall for the week Greg managed 2 fish, one being a 28lb Common but the other came in the shape of the Korda Social Common weighing 58lb, however, when I came to doing the pictures there was a bit of a mishap, we decided that the Beach was the best option for good photos so I approached the sling to pass it around the corner of the bank to get it into the correct position, however when I looked at the sling it seemed a little light to be holding a 58lb Carp, and this was because during the night it managed to do the off, so unfortunately we never managed to get pictures of that one which of course was disappointing to say the least.

After this we have a couple of anglers who didn’t necessarily bank lots of fish but what they did bank made their week first of all we have Mason Carter who fished Tea Party 1, Mason only managed 1 fish this week but that’s all he needed, this fish just happened to be The Archer weighing 50lb on the nose and for Masons first time to France a new PB of 50lb meant he went away happy. On top of this we have Ben Penney, the reason I included these two fella’s together is that Ben also made his week with a 50lber on the final morning, Ben began his week in Birches but quickly changed his mind based on fish activity and headed down to Bacheliers, this move quickly paid off as he landed 2 fish within the first day of being in there a 33lb Common and also a pretty 21lb mirror, it seemed to go a bit quiet after that but on the final morning he also managed to grab himself a new  PB of 50lb 2oz with Boilie Head hooking it from 15 wraps towards the Church Spire.

Then we come to Tim Bailie, Tim pulled ball one and went for The Beach, a swim that was clearly holding a lot of fish and in previous weeks had been doing plenty of bites, Tims chosen tactic was solid Bags filled with Pellet and Oil and using a yellow wafter as the chosen hookbait, aswell as that he was going around to the bund to spoon a healthy amount of Maize over the top of his rigs, this was definitely working for Tim as he finished with a total of 18 carp landed which included 6 forties up to 49lb with a fish called Le Flair, other notable captures were Flying Dutchman at 48lb, AJ’s at 44lb, Phil Macrackin also at 44lb and lastly Big Scale at 43lb so with a good number of fish landed and a nice amount of forties thrown in it meant Tim was kept busy all week and certainly had no complaints when it came to how his session turned out.

Finally there were a couple of other swims that still managed to throw up some nice fish, Ben Rix who fished in shingles had 3 fish fishing 17.5 wraps virtually straight out, Bens largest was a fish called Mia which regularly gets caught from that area of the lake and weighing 46lb 12oz it certainly isn’t a fish to be sniffed at. Adam Seaward began his trip in Tea Party 2 which for some reason he couldn’t seem to get any pick ups from even with showing fish in the area, so Adam moved into the Goo and managed Bronson at 40lb 4oz which of course was a blank saver and meant the move paid off.

Overall the week generally was a success for most of the anglers with fish coming out all over and a good average weight in reality.

Until next time
