Pushing Boundaries

High pressure and up and down temperatures meant the fishing on the Road lake wasn’t the easiest this week (unless you was in The Beach), areas of the lake seemingly void of fish meant the anglers really had to work for their bites, however there was still plenty to be had.

Kicking off the week we have Scouse Kev in Brambles who came out relatively late in the draw and got himself into Brambles, not the most desired swim due to its deep water and lack of bites over previous weeks. Due to the fact that Kev hadn’t been seeing too many signs of fish he decided to fish for a bite at a time by using minimal baiting and fishing solid bags, inside the bag was some micro pellet with two bits of Slow sinking IB corn on the hook. He fished at 18 wraps to be at the bottom of the bar and managed to land one fish during his stay, but that happened to be the Korda Social Common at 55lb 12oz a new PB for Kev so the tactics definitely paid off.

Next we have Martin and Joe in the Beach, Martin came third in the draw and chose the Beach due to the obvious signs of carp in there while on the walk round, a choice that definitely came good. Martin started in the Beach with his son Joe in The Cage, they swapped midweek once Martin started to haul and fancied a rest. Between them for the week they managed to bank 45 carp from the beach with the pick of the bunch being Broken Tail at 52lb 14oz, they also managed to land Bomb Head at 46lb 8oz, Boilie Head at 49lb 8oz and Lottchen at 47lb 2oz, other than that they found themselves on a pack of small Male fish that kept them busy all week. Simple tactics of keeping the bait going in which was a mix of Hemp, Boilie and Maize while fishing an IQ D rig with a wafter tipped with a piece of fake Corn, majority of the bites were coming at 22 wraps fished to the corner of the Tree line.

Next we have Jake in The Decoy who managed 4 fish during his trip of which two came in the final night, a brace of forties. Before that though early on in the week Jake managed a new PB and his first ever 50lb carp which was After Work at 51lb 8oz, once again Solid Bags was the chosen tactics being fished 16 wraps down the right hand margin, with minimal baiting he was just fishing for a bite at a time and this definitely paid off.  The other fish worth mentioning was his brace of forties on the final night, after a hard week of not too much action Jake managed to land The Cracker at 43lb and Minimum Wage at 41lb which meant he went home more than happy with his weeks captures.

Other than that the rest of the anglers found themselves struggling for bites and with the odd smaller fish being banked here and there. Ben in Shingles managed a lovely clean 32lb Common midweek which meant he at least didn’t blank, and Luke who managed to land a small common under 20lb’s in Turtle’s Corner at the start of the week then moved to Double Boards for his final night in which he landed The Prince of Darkness at 32lb also. Curtis in Billy’s and Dominic in Bachelier’s both managed a one fish under 20lb each which meant neither were blankers but it wasn’t quite what they hoped to land overall.

Although the fishing was tough for some everyone seemed to have a great week and said they can’t wait to get back here and try again.
