Week Commencing: Sat 23/09/2023

The Korda Social.

The week every Korda employer looks forward to the Korda social at the mighty Gigantica.

This year we had the added bonus that the whole week, on both lakes, was to be filmed and documented for an upcoming Spooners Vlog Christmas Special.

You will have to keep your eyes on both Korda and Gigantica social media platforms for the release date and then you will need to head over to the Korda YouTube channel for the video, which I am sure will be one not to be missed!

To not spoil your viewing of the upcoming Vlog I am not going to divulge into too much detail of what happened fish capture wise during the week but talk more about the tactics that was used to good effect during the week.

So it would be rude not to start off the week with chain saw Jack Link. After picking my brains prior to the walk around as to where the bigger fish have been coming from In recent weeks I did say that Birches/Brambles would be very high on my list if available when it was his time to choose swim, jack came out ball 4 and taking my advice  he jumped in birches for that chance off a real big en!. I told jack the bites was all night time so no need to pressure the swim during the days and leave it free off lines to let fish come in a clean-up any bait that was left from  The night before. Jack got through plenty of our mixed particle we cook on site fresh every  morning fishing small SSM hook baits on spinners over the top. I don’t want to leak to much information because it was all aired on the upcoming Spooners vlog, let’s just say he ended the week with a new PB over the 60lb mark!! All jacks fish coming from 18 wraps smack at Billy’s.

All round Mr smiler Keith drew ball one and there was only one place ball one goes each week and that’s the famous Beach swim. The fish have been stacked down in the snags that lie in this swim for weeks so with accurate baiting and placing off the rigs as tight as you can get towards these snags it’s the most effective way off fishing this swim. I see it time and time again people choosing this swim because of the records off fish hits it can throw up, but fishing it effectively and baiting it none stop is the key to being successful in this swim. Keith was top rod for the week with a stunning mid 40 mirror as his biggest fish, starting out the week whilst the temps was low 30s fishing just one 12ft zig then swapping back down to the deck with 3 spinner rigs brought Keith the success, and not to forget ploughing 5-10kg off house particles and our 9mm pellet in heavily glugged in pineapple smart liquid.

Captain Jack barrow plotted alongside Keith in Dunkirk for a good ole social. Jack followed on from the previous week just fishing a short 14 wraps towards the dot island on lovely little gravel bar similar approach to most off the other lads using our house maize/hemp he managed a staggering 8fish hit from an un favoured swim, New PB over 50lb for jack this week.

Our very own the welsh wizard carried on the bailiff curse this week as he manged to pull out ball 12. Ben went into Billy’s this week a swim he’s never wet a line in before, choosing to leave it alone in the day time as no fish have been coming out here in the days it was pure focus going into the night show. Straight out in front for ben at 22 wraps to a really firm area with all 3 rods, he did manged “apparently” 4 bites witch neither me or the rest of the lads actually witnessed so we know how that looks!, mainline cell chops an crumbed with house maize with a good hammering off cell smart liquid was his baiting approach.

It was Pablo’s 1st chance at the Korda social and 1stvisit to Gigantica. Plotting up in Brambles for the weeks fishing, wasting no time he plumbed up a spot I gave him at 18 wraps just make sure he was 100% happy what he was fishing over which is the same advice I pass on to all the guests. Pablo manged a couple fish this week with one of them being a stunner and one I’ve not seen before.  Mainline link and house maize doing the doo as per.

Embryo’s big Dave Vergeer manged to land in his 1stchoice swim Decoy. 3 rods fanned round on an angle pointing towards the bund at 16.5 wraps, Dave went for all 3 rods on the deck with spinners swapping and changing hook baits as the days went by before he manged a lovely long mirror of 32lb. baiting with a the spoon from the side margin is a great advantage in this swim meaning there no spombing involved. Dave I would say got through the most bait this week using mainly house maize and plenty of smart liquid in his mix.

The legend Jonny “Mandem” was in Bachiliers this week. This swim has been fishing very tough the last couple off weeks only producing the odd bite here and there, john didn’t waste no time fishing the long spot at 28.5 wraps to the head land it was certainly a motionless few days to start off. Staying up late at night watching and listening out for showing fish it was the same occurrence to me in this swim the week previous the fish was coming in really close at night. So john reacted to this and brought one rod in really short to 10 wraps in the single boards direction with just a solid bag with only 5 spomb over the top, the mix was  containing mainline hybrid and house maize/hemp with fish smart liquid it was a 3am wakeup call an he was away with his 1st carp off the social, with johns new game plan paying off the following night he brought all 3 rods in close and copied the night previous, unfortunately john it was another quite night but he did notice a lot of fish hanging around double boards. John acted once again on what the carp was telling him and he jumped into double boards for the final night, carp showing in this swim the night before he flicked solid bags up the right hand side margin and 2 out in open water at 10.5 wraps to a raised bar he did manged a small common for efforts off moving and getting on showing fish.

Another new face on the Korda social was Lewis Bradbrook Fishing in the Poo it was a slow week to start but sticking to his spots as I advised witch I think is really vital information that people need  to listen too when coming out to this venue, swapping and changing spots daily on these lakes all you are doing is knocking yourself back, if you do see repeated fish activity in the same area then try it out with a solid bag and just a little trap to try and slip one up. Lewis ended the week with a PB just what he came for.. a mid 40 mirror for his rewards, yet again mainline link and house maize doing the damage with all bites coming from 14 wraps smack in front.

A very similar week to Lewis it was for ben next door in the Goo. Slow start but plugged away at 14 wraps in front and manged to slip up a couple of carp to 32lb, doing nothing different to Lewis that’s what brought him the bites.

John Wilks set his sights for Turtles Corner. Despite the swim not being so active recently he sure had his work cut out, continuous graft regular spombing trying to make something happen it was just the bite for the week unfortunately. John got through a lot of house hemp/maize with added mainline link in his mix, it was a spinner with Korda SSM that nicked him the bite fished 25 wraps at the dot island.

I had to end the week with this absolute nuisance Spencer. Spending more time this year at the beer fridge than actually fishing in Tea 1 he did manged just the 1 fish for the time he actually spent in his swim. Following on from recent spots what have been doing the bites at 19 wraps right of Turtles Corner he only fish fish actually came to a solid bag a few rod lengths off the bait. It does go to show its always worth fishing a rod on the edge off the bait in tough conditions. House maize and mainline cell chops and hole used with cell smart liquid.

A handful of other fish did get caught around the lake, but again not wanting to give too much away you will just have to wait for the Vlog to drop on the Korda YouTube channel, so keep your eyes peeled towards the end of the year, once our very own Lewis Porter has worked his magic and trolled through all the video footage him and Kai managed to get and put a nice film together for you all to watch.  I’m sure it is going to be full of great entertainment and good laughs.
