Bailiff Comments

Week Commencing: Sat 17/06/2023

          Scorching!

With temperatures hitting the high 30s at Gigantica we highly recommend that you bring plenty of sun cream and drink plenty of water to keep going throughout your week.

Let’s get this party started.

As always, we started the week with a walk round and this is a guide on how last week fished with the spots that was doing the bites in each swim. The bailiff’s advice is very important and can determine how your weeks fishing plans out.

The team at Gigantica wants you to get the most and best out of your holiday so any help you may need we will always be on standby.

Let’s start off with Kellen, who opted for Brambles fishing at 18 wraps straight out to the bar that runs from the dot island down to the bung in front of beach.

Kellen only fished the nights and rested the swim during the day. This great tactic paid him well; Kellen was managing a bite a night and his first bite was a lovely common known as Scottie’s common at 40lb 12oz followed up by another two middle 20s; one he got to name Flexing.

Saving the best two last, Kellen landed absolute belters, Darky at 45lb 14oz and After work at 50lb 4oz!. Well done mate well angled. Not many people rest the swim for the day, but it does really pay off.

Kellen tactics for the week was 18 wraps straight out with all three rods fished tight over a bed of maize. The carp are hooked on the maize at the moment with all the slings covered in maize shells.

Blow back rigs with a Korda kurve shank size 4 barbless was doing the damage RG Baits formular red plum was the killer

Next up we have Scott. Scott’s home for the week would be Decoy and no wonder why, it was clear to see that there was plenty of carp not only down the bund but straight-out aswell.

Scott was off the mark very quick with a bite on the first night with a lovely common at 23lb, this was followed up by another 10 bites with 8 landed and two lost of an average size of 25lb. Scott finally got through to the bigger ones with a unit of a carp and also a PB with a fish known as Lovin’ Life at 51lb 6oz and what a mega carp this was!

Lovin’ life came from the 18 wrap spot straight out, it was clear there was plenty of carp on the bund but I feel the bigger ones are drifting out into open water and Lovin’ life clearly showed that.

Scott ended up with 12 bites and 10 landed with the biggest being Lovin’ life - well done mate. With the carp not playing ball some good angling kept me busy throughout the week.

Most of Scott’s bites came from the bund at 16.5 wraps tight to the margin but with the bigger ones moving out into the pond.

Lead clips and dark matter tubing with spinners size 4 Gardner Muggers in barbless was tripping up the carp for Scott.

Next we have Paul in Tea Party 2.  Paul came out late in the draw and still managed to bag himself a very popular swim.

Paul set his stall out at 21 wraps to the far bank half way down to Turtles bank. This has been a popular spot over the last few weeks with many carp tripping up on the spot. Not much was showing for Paul to begin with, however by sticking to his guns he managed to bag himself a carp that hasn’t been caught for well over year; a fish known as Quaver at 44lb - what a great carp this was!

Paul ended up with one more fish that was caught on the last morning a lovely common at 18lb. This was a tough week for Paul however landing Quaver kept his spirits high. Good job mate and hopefully we get to see you again very soon.

Now we have Matt and Gemma who came out first in the draw. During the walk around we could see lots of activity in the Beach and to no surprise this was where they were going to be settling for the week.

The week started off slow for Matt with his first bite not coming until the Wednesday. I put this down to weather and the fish not being interested in feeding just after spawning. I still advised Matt to keep loading the bait in as it was clear there were lots of fish in front him and with the advice taken Matt upped the ante by ordering more maize and regular spoding to get the fish to drop down and feed. This paid off for Matt and bites started to come. Matt ended the week with 16 fish with the biggest being Mia at 45lb 2oz and Gemma also got to name a stockie, choosing the Big Whopper! I’ll just leave that there; no questions are needed!

Tea Party 1 was bagged by John. This was handy as this meant he could then have a social with his mate who was in Tea Party 2. This was a hard week for both parties as the fish wasn’t in the area in numbers. By the Thursday John decided to move onto Bachelier’s after trying all tactics which rewarded him on the last night with Cracker at 43lb! Well done mate, good angling and glad the move paid off.

Last up we have Scott in Billys. Over the last month or so Billys hasn’t had many bites, so this was a brave choice and hence the name you are literally ‘’Billy no mates’’.

Scott started the week fishing two rods straight towards Tea Party 2 at 21 wraps and one rod at 17 wraps down the margin to the overhanging tree. All Scott’s bites came from the 17-wrap spot on the tree down the margin. Scott was baiting the margin with a mixture of maize and pellet and went on to land three fish with a lovely scaly Mirror at 25lb 6oz, Brooksey - what a carp she is!

On the last night Scott had a bite just beyond the overhanging tree but due to a snag and a boat battle the fish had somehow thrown the hook. Unfortunately this was Scott’s final action for the week.

A great group this week to have on the Road Lake, everyone was in high spirits and got on like a house on fire, which is always good to see.

After spawning it’s clear to see the fish are on the munch going through the maize like it’s going out of fashion especially as the carp in the Road Lake are greedy buggers.

That’s all for this week hopefully we get to see you again very soon.

Tight lines,

Many thanks  Mike.
