                             Back up and Running!

After closing for the winter break back in October, the team have been carrying out works to give the Road Lake a makeover for you all. We have removed majority of the snags, replaced the mats, slings and nets, updated the lake map and last but not least revamped the clubhouse and all picture frames displaying our mega carp!

We can’t wait to have our customers back for another good year and hoping for our first 70lber to grace the bank!

First to hit the bank, we welcomed Ben and he’s lovely partner Mary. Ben was lucky enough to have the Road Lake all to himself – what a treat!

The weather was hit and miss with temperatures hitting 15-16 degrees during the day with not a breeze in sight but night temperatures dropping down to -3 / -4; this was always going to make it a tough week. However this wasn’t stopping Ben as he was keen to get going straightaway. After the walk round there wasn’t much to go on, so obvious choice would be to jump into Tea Party 1. This commands a lot of water, and both sides of the lake can been see from Tea party 1 & 2. Ben deployed two rods towards Turtles Corner at 18 wraps and he’s 3rd rod at 16 wraps on the left of the swim towards the Church. With no action for two days Ben was beginning to get itchy feet and started to look for where the carp were holding up. Within no time Ben was on the move to The Beach where he had seen and heard the carp in the early hours of the morning.

Ben plans for The Beach was to get out as quickly as possible and with the least amount of disturbance. Using solid bags at 21 wraps slightly left of the christmas trees in the horizon; Ben had he’s first bite within the first few hours. He was rewarded with a 36lb 5oz mirror, naming him Holepunch! This was a PB for Ben so a soaking was on the cards! .The next day followed a 25lb 10oz common and yet another PB with the Bowt fish at 38lb 6oz. Ben was over the moon with the biggest smile on his face. These moments is what we live for at Gigantica, can’t beat making people’s dreams come true.

Tactics for the week for The Beach were the small solid bags approach fished at 21 wraps slightly left of the Christmas trees, on a barbless widegape size 4 with plastic yellow corn soaked in Pineapple goo.

Ben also topped the swim up by walking round to the bung, baiting by hand with 10kg of crushed cell and corn.

At the end of the week Ben ended up with four new PBs, the biggest being Herman at 42lb 2oz! Ben’s final tally was nine bites and nine fish landed. Well done; with tricky conditions Ben never gave up and fished to his strength. Just shows if you make the effort you will be rewarded at the end!

Well with the first week over it was an absolute pleasure to look after you both, and hopefully we get to see you at Gigantica to smash your PB again!

As Andy Savage would say Tight Lines and Bonne Peche

Until Next time
