Week Commencing: Sat 15/09/2018

Well its that time of year again when Fat Fish Tackle come out for their yearly trip to the Road lake, all of them were ready and waiting at the gate keen to get going. The walk round was done and the draw was next to see who goes where. The weather for the week looked like its going to be high pressure and warm sunny days till Friday when the weather was changing to overcast and low pressure which is what we need.

First up with ball one was Mark Dyer, he decided to go into Tea Party One, where he went last year. Mark had a good plumb around with his marker rod and found a hard area at 18 wraps just to the right of Turtles Corner to where he was going to put all 3 rods, he baited the area straight away with 8kg of Nash Scopex Squid boilies. Mark started off catching a few 20’s and doubles at the start of the week then towards the middle of the week he had a couple of nice 30’s with his biggest being a mirror of 36lb4oz, then on Friday he goes and lands “Frankie” at 49lb8oz which was a new PB for mark, as the photos were being done he had another take this turned out to be “Swaley’s Mirror” at 42lb8oz, what a way to end the week. Mark was using an IQ-D Rig with a Scopex Squid wafter as his hook bait. He had a total of 17 carp for the week.

The Boss from “Fat Fish” tackle was up next, Andy Reynolds went into Decoy, he found a nice area to put 2 rods just at the start of the bund at 16 wraps, the other area he decided to fish with his other rod was straight out at 18 wraps in-line with Dunkerque. Andy baited each area with 6kg of Sticky Baits Krill Boilies, after a few days of no action Andy went down to Tea party 1 as Mark was having all the action, so he put out a couple rods just to the left of the swim at 13 wraps, and then put out 100 boilies with his throwing stick. It didn’t tack long before Andy was into his first fish and what a cracker it was a 47lb8oz mirror called “Broken Tail”, he re-cast his rod and an hour later he was in again this time with a 41lb Mirror called “Bomber”, Andy was using a simple knotless knot with a Krill Bottom bait as his hook bait. On the last day he had a 26lb and 29lb mirror.

Kenny Hawkings went into Turtles Corner, which he had fished this swim a few times before and he knew where to fish, he put all three rods at 18 wraps just to the right of the island, and then baited that area with 8kg mix of Sticky Baits Krill and Manilla Boilies, it wasn’t long before he was into his first fish of the session a 27lb common, not long after that he lands a 32lb4oz mirror, Kenny was using an IQ-D Rig with a Sticky Baits Krill wafter as his hook bait. The next morning, he was in again this time with an 33lb mirror, he went onto have a few more 20’s a 33lb and 36lb common towards the end of the week.

Phil Newman decided to go into Billy’s, his first rod was cast at 16 wrapsjust of the end of the overhanging tree on the right hand margin, the other two rods were cast straight out at 21 wraps in-line with Tea Party 2. Phil baited both areas with 5kg of Sticky baits Manilla boilies, it didn’t take long before he was into his first fish of the session a 32lb mirror, the next morning at first light he was in again this time a cracking 43lb Mirror called “The Decoy”, not long after that he lands a 36lb mirror. Phil baited after every fish with a few kilos of boilies just to keep the fish in his area, towards the end of the week he had “The Model” at 42lb, Phil was using an D rig with a Manilla bottom bait as his hook bait. Phil had a total of 11 fish for the week.

George Treadwell and Anna Wallwork went into Shingles, they started of by having a good plumb around with his marker rod and after finding a nice clean hard area at 18 wraps which was in-line with the island he decided to place all three rods at that range, and bait that area with 10kg of Boilies with his spomb.  The first fish came to Anna a 29lb8oz common which they named it “The Pansexual Common” as its an unnamed fish. The next day George was in again this time with “Big Scales” at 38lb8oz. Not long after that he lands a 37lb mirror he also went on to have a few more 20’s, all of their fish came on a Ronnie rig with a Baitworks Sent from Hell yellow pop up as their hook bait, over the week he used 40kg of boilies.

Mark Leaford went into The Poo, he decided to fish all three rods at 13 wraps in-line with Turtles Corner as there were fish coming from that spot last week, he baited the area with a few kilo’s of Mainline Link boilies, it was very slow for the first half of the week, there were no fishing showing down that end of the lake, it wasn’t until Thursday that he had his first take a mid twenty pound common, this fell to an IQ-D rig with a Mainline Link bottom bait as his hook bait.

Well that’s it for another week here at Gigantica. Another great bunch of lads and lassies this week a tough week for some but they all had a fantastic week.
